OZ, the Yellow Brick Road which was staged in #CempakaDamansara as the Primary School Junior Musical marks the end of the Academic Year 2023/24 in Cempaka International School. This is the sixth and newest Junior Musical written and produced by CPAC.
This OZ adventure takes place fifth years after the story of “The Wizard of OZ” with Daisy Gale (granddaughter of Dorothy Gale) taken to the Land of Oz in a tornado. She is greeted by the Munchkins and told about how OZ is no longer the beautiful magical place it used to be. Determined to find a way home, Daisy sets off to Emerald City to meet the Wizard and restore OZ to its glory.
She follows the Yellow Brick Road where she meets Betsy Bobbin and Scarecrow. Meanwhile, the wicked witch, Mombi learns of Daisy’s presence but she isn’t concern and assures the Flying Monkeys that her wicked magic is more powerful. At the Emerald City, Daisy and friends bump into the Shaggy Man who explains that everyone is feeling lost and hopeless. When they located the Wizard, they saw how helpless and defeated he was.
At that moment, they heard the angelic voice of Princess Ozma singing. They went to the Royal Gardens to see Ozma who recounts the glorious days of OZ. There, they were captured by the Flying Monkeys and brought to Mombi’s lair. Daisy crafts a cunning plan, entering the lair dressed as a white witch and cleverly tricks Mombi into surrendering.
The citizens of OZ rejoice and celebrate while Daisy discovers the magical ruby slippers that will send her back to Kansas. Daisy was relieved when she wakes up in her grandmother’s farm as if everything was a dream. But her grandmother told her that OZ and her new found friends are all real.
This full scale Junior Musical consists of a cast, ensemble and musicians from the Primary School. Rehearsals took several weeks after the casting was done. It was an amazing experience and the performers worked together to raise the bar, producing a show of high standards.
